Give me tap

Today is World Water’s Day, so I thought to write about an awesome cause, that I really like.

give_me_tap_logo-300x295I’ve heard about Give Me Tap almost two years ago, and since then I’m trying to share their story and cause here. We were talking about water, so that’s what Give Me Tap does: gives access to people from Africa to clean, drinkable water. How? They have these awesome refillable, stainless bottles, that you can buy in different colours and with different caps. And here comes the “tap” part. čśÇ They have partnerships with different restaurants, coffee shops and so on, so if you see a sticker with Give Me Tap on a restaurant’s window, and if you do have a Give Me Tap bottle, you can get your bottle filled up for free there. How awesome is that? čśÇ

They help people from Africa to have access to one of the most elementary need of humankind’s of all time and they also reduce plastic waste. So they help less unfortunate people┬áand the environment.

GMTtypographycoloursThe good part is that the bottles are available for international shipping and they’re not very expensive, considering that’s for a noble cause. I still want my Give Me Tap own bottle, but being a student… finance is not my strongest point. It’s awesome that you can share and help the cause even if you’re not from the UK. The bad part is that the GMT tap water providers can only be found in Britain, Lisbon, Z├╝rich and Amsterdam. But considering that in Romania tap water isn’t of the healthiest options, all of a sudden is not such a bad point.

Even if I (still) don’t have a GMT bottle, so I can’t help the cause directly, I shared with you their story and you can do the same: spread the word to let people know about this brilliant idea.

Why Don’t You Come Over? – II

As you probably already know, Gandul newspaper has launched a brilliant website, where Brits can get a job in Romania, or search for a cosy Romanian couch (based on the surfing-sofa idea). You can see the job descriptions, the posters and news about the cause on whydontyoucomeover.co.uk.

Don’t forget to spread the news via twitter, facebook, google+, pinterest, linkedin – and so on – with the hashtag #whydontyoucomeover.

Why don’t you come over?

I will start by explaining why I have chosen to write this in English. It’s already a well-known fact that, from 2014, there will be no restrictions for Romanians and Bulgarians on the British ┬álabour marker. As a result of this, Britain decided to promote a sinking, rainy, wild Great Britain to us. čÖé So, this is in English because here (in Romania) we do speak better English than any other French (no offense, vive la France!) and I want my message to be understood by as many people as possible.

Through┬áthis article┬áThe Guardian (if you don’t know what The Guardian is – I feel sorry for you)┬á┬áinvited their readers to come up with ideas for posters and different messages to discourage Romanians/Bulgarians to immigrate to UK.

Here you can see the posters.

Gandul newspaper has come up with a similar idea: if WE shouldn’t come to UK, why don’t YOU come over to Romania? It’s a campign whose purpose is to promote Romania’s strongest points (in comparison to UK).

I won’t say that Romanians are all honey and milk, neither Britons are. I’m aware of the fact that we have a very, very bad reputation around Europe, mostly because of Romanian Gypsies, political views etc. And I also know that you have brilliant Romanian people over there, that make us – and you – proud of them. I understand your concert, it’s natural. No one would like their country to be invaded by thieves, criminals or murderers. But there are good people among us (among the one you consider gypsies, thieves or criminals). I’m sad to see, that such an open-minded country as Britain (or as it wants to be seen) is not able to break this wall of discrimation.

Coming back to the gandul.info┬ácampaign. We’re trying to encourage British to come over, but are we prepared to receive them? I mean… we almost┬áhave two motorways, the weather’s nice, but the infrastructure is not… so good. Don’t think that gandul.info had thought about that. But I doubt ┬áthat British will be invading Romania any time soon.

The posters below are the property of gandul.info.
